Whilst I use Adobe Photoshop for almost everything else, I use Paint Shop Pro for optimising
images for the web. Photoshop probably does it just as well, but I find Paint Shop Pro easier to use.
It is important to compress images that are to be used on the web otherwise people using your web site
may get bored waiting for them to appear. So how do we do this? Well, once you have done any other editing
and resizing of your picture open it in Paint Shop Pro. Select 'File', then 'Export', then 'JPEG Optimiser' as
Shown below.
On the JPEG Optimizer window that is subsequently displayed you have to set the 'Compression Value'. In this case you can see
below, that I choose a value of 20. This reduces the picture in this example from 405,640 bytes to just 19,572 bytes, without any
significantly noticeable bad effects to the picture. This makes it much faster to download when people are viewing your web pages.
All you need to do now is click 'OK' and save the compressed image on your hard drive.
